Watch Out for the Latest Scam!

A new scam is spreading across social media: victims are asked to transfer money to someone they trust, as a guarantee for the availability of funds to pay for a product or service.

The scam’s main indicators:

1. Someone claims to provide a service or to sell a product through social media. The victim contacts them for the services or products they claim to sell.

2. Upon agreement and as a financial guarantee, the victim is asked to transfer money to one of their relatives or to any trusted person, and to share the money transfer receipt as proof.

Based on the number of confirmed cases, OMT alerts its customers against transferring any amount as a financial guarantee to anyone they have never met. Such requests from someone you don’t know are a red flag to watch out for in order to avoid falling prey to scammers.
